The PGA TOUR is in Scotland this week for its annual stop at the Renaissance Club just before The Open Championship. The Scottish Open has been a regular week of prep just before the final major of the year for many years, and the PGA TOUR and DP World Tour have co-sanctioned the event since 2022.
The blending of the two tours creates a unique and fun blend of top golfers from each circuit. Both the DP World Tour and the PGA TOUR have about 75 players in the event each year with some extra spots for players from the KPGA as well. It’s an exciting event that gives players a chance to brush up on their game on a links-style layout before attacking The Open. Last year, Chris Gotterup won this event and has picked up three more wins this season. Especially in large-field tournaments, you’ll want to make sure to target players who have lower ownership projections than their potential performance suggests. Finding high-leverage plays is critical for tournament success, so the picks here go against the grain, looking for under-owned options.
Usually, I rely heavily on the Strokes Gained Model in FantasyLabs, which is very predictive of results. I also tend to lean toward players who excel in Strokes Gained: Approach, which is more sustainable week to week than a hot putter.
Since these are tournament picks, we can accept more risk in exchange for getting a higher ceiling. High-risk, high-reward options with low ownership create the “boom-or-bust” style lineups that often lead to large-field success. No matter what type of format you prefer, be sure to use the FantasyLabs PGA Models to help you make the best choices. These models use stats and simulations to highlight different players’ strengths and weaknesses. A few critical new stats for tournament play are Perfect% and SimLeverage, which are further explained here.
As you dig into the numbers, you can enjoy the many tools FantasyLabs offers, including the Lineup Optimizer, which effortlessly creates up to 300 lineups. Alternatively, you can use the Lineup Builder if you prefer a more hands-on approach.

High-Priced PGA DFS Picks
Rory McIlroy $12,000
With so many big names on the board, there are lots of different options to consider building around. Scottie Scheffler($14,000) has the highest salary, the highest projections, and the highest ownership projections of all the players on the board, but if you’re looking for a pivot play with plenty of possibility to take home the win this week, check out Rory McIlroy, who matches the most Pro Trends and has the 4th-highest Perfect% in the field. He has the 6th-highest SimLeverage in the field and the highest of all players over $8,000.
McIlroy comes in with shaky form, which is why he’s outside the top 10 in ownership projections, but he has an outstanding course history at The Renaissance Club and is always a threat to win, since his top form can make him the best in the world.
Rory leads the field in SG:OTT and ranks 3rd in SG:T2G over the last 6 months, with the 2nd-most Total Strokes Gained over that span. He has not played a ton of events this season, but he won his second straight Masters and placed in the top 20 at the Truist Championship, the PGA Championship, and the Memorial Tournament since that victory. He finished T32 at the U.S. Open in his last start, struggling a bit on approach, which is unusual for the 37-year-old star.
Rory won the Genesis Scottish Open in 2023, edging out Robert MacIntyre ($9,000) in a thrilling finish. Bobby Mac bounced back and won in 2024, with Rory finishing T4. Last year, McIlroy posted his third straight top-5 finish at the event, finishing T2 behind Chris Gotterup ($9,300).
With such a strong course history and solid form, Rory will be a force to contend with this week, and with the public looking at other pay-up plays, McIlroy is set up to be an excellent pivot play and a good pay-up source of leverage.

Wyndham Clark $9,200
While he hasn’t won at the Genesis Scottish Open like the players mentioned above, who are around his price point, Wyndham Clark looks set up to bring great leverage as well this week. He has a very high ceiling based on his success at this style of course in the past and his scorching recent form.
Clark has the 2nd-highest SimLeverage of the options over $8,000, behind only Rory, and he has the 5th-highest Perfect% in the field. He’s surrounded by strong plays and is getting a little overlooked, which makes him a great play for tournament lineups due to his upside.
Over the last 6 weeks, Clark has been almost unstoppable. He won THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson and the U.S. Open and also added two more high finishes at Signature Events, with a T3 at the Memorial Tournament and a T5 at the Travelers Championship.
Over the last 20 rounds, the 32-year-old leads the field in Total Strokes Gained and SG:P while ranking 3rd in SG:T2G.
Before his recent success, he had been a little inconsistent over the last few seasons and had a quiet start to the year. However, even when he hasn’t had great form, he has been excellent at this course. He has posted 4 top-25 finishes in his 4 appearances at The Renaissance Club, with his best finish a T10 in 2024. Last year, he finished T11, and the long-iron play that served him well at the U.S. Open should set him up for another good week in Scotland.
Clark has proven he can thrive in a wide range of conditions and is a good fit for links-style golf. He’s a great play this week if he can carry his recent momentum across the pond.
