MLB Pro Model Stacks: Friday 5/5

This series uses the FantasyLabs Tools to analyze MLB stacks in the day’s slate. The series does not provide play or fade recommendations. It provides analysis.

Arizona Diamondbacks

With the Lineup Builder, it’s easy to incorporate stacks into DFS lineups. Today’s highest-rated five-man DraftKings stack in the Bales Player Model is a 1-5 stack of the Diamondbacks at Coors Field. The Diamondbacks are currently tied with the Rockies with the slate’s highest implied team total at 5.3 runs (per our Vegas Dashboard):

Given that this game is at Coors Field, the Diamondbacks will likely have high ownership, which Pro subscribers can review across guaranteed prize pools of all stakes via our DFS Ownership Dashboard after lineups lock. Historically, batters at Coors have averaged a +1.37 Plus/Minus on DraftKings with a 47.6 percent Consistency Rating (per our Trends tool). This is an expensive stack at $23,000 on DraftKings, but the Diamondbacks still have a Team Value Rating of 61. Though expensive, they still offer some value because of their high total.

Boston Red Sox

The top FanDuel stacks in the CSURAM88 model curently belong to the Diamondbacks and Rockies. After them, there’s a 1-4 Red Sox stack. The Red Sox have the slate’s third-highest implied total at 4.9 runs, which gives them a Team Value Rating of 75, the fourth-highest mark on the slate. This stack costs $14,600, which is $2,000 – $4,000 cheaper than the Coors stacks rated above it:

The Red Sox aren’t a bad pivot off of the Coors teams, as they take on Twins righty Phil Hughes, who has poor Statcast data with a recent batted ball distance of 228 feet, exit velocity of 92 miles per hour, and a hard hit rate of 42 percent. While the Red Sox have a .279 strikeout rate against right-handed pitching, Hughes owns the lowest strikeout rate among pitchers on the slate with 5.11 strikeouts per nine innings — and he also has a 1.55 WHIP and a slate-worst 1.94 home runs per nine innings over the last 12 months. The Red Sox are a strong non-Coors stacking option.

Minnesota Twins

If you build a lineup by ISO, the Minnesota Twins have the highest-rated four-man FanDuel stack thanks to their .264 ISO against left-handed pitching. The Twins would be a very contrarian stack, as they are implied for 4.2 runs:

Per our Lineups page, hitting fifth will likely be Kennys Vargas, who has an exceptional .436 wOBA and.296 ISO against left-handed pitching. No. 3 hitter Miguel Sano also has some upside with a recent batted ball distance of 248 feet, exit velocity of 100 mph, and a hard hit rate of 59 percent. A Twins stack won’t make you feel comfortable, but at $13,800 it could allow you to mix in some high-priced Coors bats.
