MLB Pro Model Stacks: Tuesday 7/18

This series uses the FantasyLabs Tools to analyze MLB stacks in the day’s slate. The series does not provide play or fade recommendations. It provides analysis.

San Diego Padres

A simple, overlooked strategy on a 15-game slate is to target the secondary projected lineup at Coors Field: The team implied to score fewer runs. The Colorado Rockies litter the top of the Lineup Builder with four-man FanDuel stacks in the Bales Model, but the Padres provide similar upside at a fraction of the cost:

His samples is limited, but Jabari Blash leads all hitters in average distance and fly ball percentage over the last 15 days. Jose Pirela is expected to return to the cleanup spot with Luis Torrens drawing the start ahead of Hector Sanchez at catcher. Pirela’s notable .206 ISO against right-handed pitching pairs well with Carlos Asuaje‘s team-high .346 wOBA against righties. As one of 13 teams implied for at least 5.0 runs on Tuesday (per our Vegas Dashboard), the Padres benefit from lower projected ownership than their Coors counterpart while sharing the same Park Factor Rating (100) and Weather Rating (92). Pro subscribers can review ownership rates across various buy-in levels via our DFS Ownership Dashboard after lineups lock.

Chicago Cubs

Building a stack based on ISO can pay huge dividends in large-field tournaments. The Cubs rank fifth in ISO against left-handed pitching this season but are masked by a slate-average 4.8 implied run total on Tuesday:

Kris Bryant, Anthony Rizzo, and Addison Russell all carry Bargain Ratings above 85 percent on FanDuel to go along with positive wOBA and ISO differentials against lefties. Albert Almora has also seen a spike in performance against southpaws this season with a +2.05 Plus/Minus on a miniscule average ownership of 7.6 percent (per our Trends tool). All four hitters boast positive hard hit differentials over the previous 15 days. At just $12,900, this stack affords you the opportunity to roster a stud pitcher such as Clayton Kershaw.

New York Yankees

The Yankees are tied for the third-highest run total (5.6) in Tuesday’s slate but could have decreased ownership thanks to a poor Weather Rating and negative recency bias, having scored four or fewer runs in six consecutive games:

Opposing pitcher Bartolo Colon is making his first start since the Braves designated him for assignment. He has allowed at least five runs in seven of his previous nine starts. In the event of a rain delay, the Yankees will still benefit from the opportunity to leverage their 99 Opponent Bullpen Strength against the Twins recently overworked relievers. Although Aaron Judge and Gary Sanchez have struggled with disappointing recent batted ball statistics, they still lead the team in Upside Rating this season. With Colon on the mound, the in-game thunder is likelier to come from the Yankees’ bats than the rapid expansion of air.

Good luck, and be sure to read today’s MLB Breakdown!
