MLB Pro Model Stacks: Thursday 5/18

This series uses the FantasyLabs Tools to analyze MLB stacks in the day’s slate. The series does not provide play or fade recommendations. It provides analysis.

Seattle Mariners

With the Lineup Builder, it’s easy to incorporate stacks into DFS rosters. The top five-man main slate DraftKings stack in TheSportsGeek Model belongs to the Mariners, who presently are implied for a slate-high 5.2 runs (per the Vegas Dashboard):

Kyle Seager leads the quintet with 10 Pro Trends and a recent batted ball distance of 255 feet — the second-highest mark in the main slate. Nelson Cruz is the slate’s third-most expensive hitter, and Ben Gamel is among the highest-rated options despite his negative wOBA and ISO differentials. Opposing starter Dylan Covey has allowed at least two home runs in four of his last five starts and claims the slate’s worst WHIP, HR/9, and K Prediction. This group of hitters projects to have high ownership, which Pro subscribers can review after lineup lock via our DFS Ownership Dashboard.

Oakland Athletics

The top stack in nearly every model belongs to the Mariners. After them, the highest-rated four-man FanDuel stack in the Bales Model belongs to the Athletics, who are presently tied for third in the main slate with 4.6 implied runs:

All four hitters provide Bargain Ratings of at least 70 percent. Yonder Alonso exited last night’s game early with a knee issue, but he stated he was fine. If Alonso doesn’t play, pivots at his position and salary range are available in the late games. Rajai Davis has been a pinch hitter in the past two games, but prior to the rest he recorded at least 3.0 FanDuel points in seven straight games. Opposing starter Hector Velazquez is making his MLB debut at 28 years old. He allowed few baserunners in AAA, but his 6.2 SO/9 in the minors may not translate well to the majors. The uncertainty on both sides could result in reduced GPP ownership for the A’s.

Los Angeles Dodgers

The two top five-man DraftKings stacks (by Pro Trends) belong to the Dodgers. The difference between them comes down to Justin Turner and Yasmani Grandal. Turner offers a conventional 1-4 alignment; Grandal, two mini stacks of the projected 1, 2/4, 5 hitters:

The Dodgers could be a popular stack in the small slate as they are currently implied for 4.7 runs, the second-highest mark. All six batters, including Grandal, possess positive wOBA and ISO differentials against right-handed pitchers. Cody Bellinger leads all players in the main slate with 11 DraftKings Pro Trends and a recent batted-ball distance of 262 feet. Middle-of-the-order hitters with similar Vegas Scores and Pro Trends have recorded a +2.16 DraftKings Plus/Minus with a 48.4 percent Consistency Rating (per our Trends tool).
