NFL DFS Picks: Week 2 Monday Night Football DraftKings Breakdown

With the NFL seemingly intent on limiting Sunday main slates to 12 games and no bye weeks or international games in Week 2, we’ve got a Monday Night Football doubleheader on our hands.

The action starts with Buccaneers vs. Texans at 7:00 p.m. ET, followed by Chargers vs. Raiders at 10:00. That means the early game should be mostly completed by the time the late game starts, making late swap a key factor on the slate, particularly in cash games.

In this article, I’ll be using various FantasyLabs tools and other industry metrics to break down the DFS slate.

Don’t forget to check out our Lineup Builder if you like to hand-build your lineups or our Lineup Optimizer for those of you who like to enter multiple lineups into tournaments.

Oh yeah! And our SimLabs Lineup Generator gives you the ability to create advanced DFS lineups using the power of simulation.

You can check out our in-depth SimLabs guide here.

Finally, make sure to check out all the projections available for purchase (Chris Raybon’s come included with a FantasyLabs subscription) within the FantasyLabs Models. Projections from One Week Season and Establish the Run are available if you’re a subscriber to those specific sites (our optimizer is a separate add-on feature).

You can also combine them to create your own aggregate projections:

NFL DFS Quarterback Picks

Stud/Value: Justin Herbert ($5,900) Los Angeles Chargers (-3.5) at Las Vegas Raiders (46.5 Total)

This slate lacks truly elite fantasy QBs, and the only passer priced over $6,000 is taking on arguably the league’s best defense. That leaves Herbert as the clear top choice, both from a raw projection standpoint and Pts/Sal, as he and the Chargers take on possibly the worst defense in the NFL in the Raiders.

More importantly, Herbert might be moving into the elite fantasy QB discussion this season. His Chargers have been one of the pass-heaviest teams in the NFL since midway through last season and have invested heavily in pass catchers for Herbert. If the year three breakout for Quinton Johnson ($5,400) continues, they might have the best receiver trio in the NFL.

Plus, the Chargers have the highest team total on the Monday slate and are close enough favorites that they’ll likely need to stay aggressive throughout the contest. The only real knock on Herbert is that he’ll likely carry massive ownership since he’s so clearly the best option. That obviously doesn’t matter for cash games, but Herbert-led GPP lineups need to consider how to get unique elsewhere.

Quick Hits

Baker Mayfield ($6,500): Mayfield is the likeliest option to top Herbert tonight, since he adds a bit of production on the ground. However, he has a much tougher task against the Texans’ elite defense, and Tampa is very shorthanded at receiver. On the plus side, we know the bulk of his production will flow through just two players, making him an easy stack.

CJ Stroud ($5,500): The Texans managed just nine points in Week 1 against the Rams, and Stroud had a hard time getting anything going behind the league’s worst offensive line. The good news this week is that Tampa’s defensive line is better at stopping the run than rushing the QB, so there’s a glimmer of hope for Stroud. Like with Mayfield, injuries at wide receiver have made the Houston offense extremely condensed, so at least Stroud is an easy stack.
