NBA DFS Picks: Top OwnersBox Plays for Wednesday (Feb. 14)

OwnersBox is one of the unique DFS sites that still has traditional daily salary cap contests in addition to their Lightning Lineups contests.

In Lightning Lineups, the OwnersBox app will provide three sets of lineups for a given sport and slate, each lineup with three players. From there, users pick which lineup they think will score the most points. If you don’t like the options, you can spin for new lineups.

Spin. Pick. Win. OwnersBox innovative Lighting Lineups format is the most electric way to play daily fantasy sports.

However, they also have a traditional DFS format, which will be the focus of this article.

For OwnersBox, you use four guards, four forwards/centers, and one Superflex.

Also, our OwnersBox promo code delivers new users a $500 sign-up offer. Their 100% deposit match of up to $500 is by far the best among DFS sites.
Let’s dive into some of the top plays on the slate using the FantasyLabs tools and projections.

Also, don’t forget that for large-field tournaments, you can utilize our Lineup Optimizer to effortlessly create up to 300 lineups or use our Lineup Builder if you like to hand-build your lineups.

NBA DFS Guard Picks

Luka Doncic ($9,500) vs. San Antonio Spurs

The Spurs have been a great matchup for opposing point guards this season, and Luke Doncic always seems to post monster numbers against his in-state rivals. Doncic is the most expensive guard play on this busy nine-game slate on Owners Box, but he’s too productive to pass up if you can make his salary work under your cap with some of the bargain options discussed below and highlighted in our models.

Luka has the highest ceiling, median, and floor projection at guard and ranks in the top 10 in Pts/Sal even though he comes with that big salary. His Mavericks have the highest implied team total of all 24 teams taking the floor on Wednesday night.

Doncic has scored over 25 points in 14 of his last 15 games and is coming off a triple-double of 26 points, 15 assists, and 11 rebounds on Monday against Washington. He had two triple-doubles in his two matchups with the Spurs earlier this season, with over 30 points in each outing. Doncic most recently took on San Antonio in a home game just before Christmas. He finished that contest with 29 points, 10 assists and 12 rebounds. Since he again brings that kind of potential, he’s a strong pay-up play to consider Wednesday.

Amen Thompson ($4,800) at Memphis Grizzlies

While Fred VanVleet (adductor) has been out, Amen Thompson has gotten a chance to shine for the Rockets, and the 21-year-old rookie has done just that. He has the highest Pts/Sal of all the guards on Wednesday’s slate in what should be a matchup he can dominate in Memphis against the short-handed Grizzlies.

Thompson has started and played over 30 minutes in each of the last four games, averaging 10.3 points, 11.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 1.8 steals per contest. He has grabbed at least nine rebounds in each of those games and has finished with good fantast totals despite a usage rate of just 14.6%. His non-scoring production has been impressive enough to make him a good consideration under $5,000, especially in this matchup.

On Wednesday, Thompson has a 20.0% usage projection in 33.0 projected minutes. If he’s near those numbers, he should be a great value play to build around. His steady production gives him a high floor for a value play, and the matchup gives him plenty of upside.

NBA DFS Forward/Center Picks

Kevin Durant ($7,600) vs. Detroit Pistons

Durant and the Suns got another big win on Tuesday night, dispatching the Kings 130-125. They have won six of their last eight games, but Tuesday’s victory did come with one important loss. Bradley Beal (hamstring) had to leave the game and will miss Wednesday’s contest with a hamstring injury, per coach Frank Vogel. While the injury isn’t thought to be serious, it does open up more usage and potential production for Durant in this soft matchup.

In his last four games, KD has been hitting the boards extra hard, and he has posted three double-doubles in those contests, including Tuesday against the Kings, when he had 28 points and 11 rebounds. He has 28.1 points, 8.0 rebounds, 5.4 assists, 1.4 steals, and 1.4 blocks per game over his last seven games, and he should be able to keep putting up big numbers against Detroit.

Over the last month, Durant has a 27.4% usage rate, which climbs to 29.3% with Beal off the floor. With some extra shots coming his way and no one on the opposing team who can come close to matching up with him, Durant should be a strong option. He has the third-highest median and floor projections of all forward/centers but comes at the fifth-highest salary, over $2,000 less than Nikola Jokic.

Lamar Stevens ($3,000) vs. Houston Rockets

If you’re paying up for KD, Doncic, Jokic, or other stars on this giant slate, you may need to find a bargain play with good upside to help balance out your salary cap. Lamar Stevens should be in a great spot to provide good value, and his salary is at a minimum of just $3,000.

Stevens spent most of the season with the Celtics before landing with Memphis at the trade deadline as part of the deal for Xavier Tillman. Stevens played sparingly in Boston, appearing in 19 of 50 games and averaging just 6.4 minutes in the games he did play. The change in situation, though, radically improves his value.

In his Grizzlies debut on Monday, he played a season-high 27 minutes, producing 10 points and seven rebounds, along with a pair of blocks. Memphis is so short-handed that he should continue to get plenty of playing time and should get decent usage as well as one of the more proven options on the young, injury-depleted roster. Rolling with Stevens on your roster saves significant salary cap space while still bringing the potential for strong production.
