NBA Trend of the Day: Players With a Projected Floor of 35 or More

We truly believe here at FantasyLabs that we have the most unique tools and data available to DFS users. However, we also realize that those tools and data are only as awesome and helpful as our ability to effectively communicate how to use everything. As such, we will continually listen to feedback of what you need and try our best to teach our subscribers how to use all of the cool things we have to offer.

With this in mind, we’ve begun a “Trend of the Day” series. Every weekday we’ll walk our subscribers through an important trend for that day’s slate of games.

Seven-game slates are just about perfect. They’re big enough to provide both value plays, studs, and enough volume to give the skilled players an edge, although not so huge as to be overwhelming. We have a nice mix tonight of games with high totals, great values, and nice contrarian options.

One thing that stuck out to me in this slate is Stephen Curry’s really high-projected floor: currently 37.3, which is a whole 5.5 points higher than the next highest player in LeBron James. Floor is obviously important for cash games, so let’s take a look at players with high-projected floors have performed in the past.

Trend: Players with a Projected Floor of 35 or More

This only affects Steph tonight, but the sample size in our database is actually fairly large, so I think this will be a good one to check out.

Step 1: Trends > Projections > Floor > Set to “35 to 45”

So this is really good — the Plus/Minus on this Trend is super high at +4.59. And, as always, the important thing to remember about Plus/Minus is that it is, by definition, salary-adjusted. This means that the rebuttal of “duh, Steph is good” isn’t useful because his salary reflects that. Despite Steph’s goodness, he still crushes his salary-based expectation when his floor is 35-plus, as shown below.

Step 2: Player Name > Select “Stephen Curry”

Steph falls right in line with that awesome Plus/Minus of players that have projected floors of 35-plus. In fact, his is even a little better than average…

Curry has exceeded his salary-based expectation by +5.46 points in these situations, and perhaps more importantly, check out that Consistency Rating.

The average for the overall is 64.3% and Steph is right in that with a personal Consistency Rating of 65.4%. That means he has hit his implied expectation 65.4% of the time, an impressive number and one that should bring you a lot of peace when constructing your cash-game lineups.

I know today’s Trend of the Day is a bit simple, but sometimes things can just be that way. Good luck tonight!
