PGA DFS: Top Cash Game Picks for the TOUR Championship

The TOUR Championship will be played at East Lake Golf Club (par 70, 7,440 yards, Bermuda greens) in Atlanta, Georgia, which has been the home of this event since 2004. This is the final event of the PGA TOUR season and the last leg of the FedEx Playoffs. Scottie Scheffler (-20) won last year’s TOUR Championship and for this year’s edition of this playoff finale, the top 30 players in the FedExCup standings will compete for a massive $40 million purse. There will be no cut and each player will start at even par like a normal event, after the TOUR Championship featured a unique format over the last few years, where each golfer started with a score based on their position in the FedEx Cup standings.

The PGA DFS Breakdown offers data-driven analysis for each week’s slate, using the FantasyLabs Tools and metrics to highlight notable golfers.

I’ll be highlighting the best cash game/single-entry plays on the DraftKings main slate, but these players are often great options in any contest.

My analysis will frequently reference Strokes Gained, a set of proprietary metrics generated by the PGA TOUR using millions of data points to calculate how many shots, on average, it takes a player to get the ball in the hole from every distance and situation.

Strokes Gained is now available in the FantasyLabs PGA Models.

There are a variety of Strokes Gained-related metrics, but the six main categories you need to know include:

  • Strokes Gained: Off-the-Tee (SG: Off-the-Tee)
  • Strokes Gained: Approach (SG: Approach)
  • Strokes Gained: Around-the-Green (SG: Around-the-Green)
  • Strokes Gained: Putting (SG: Putting)
  • Strokes Gained: Ball-Striking (SG: Ball-Striking), which is SG: Off-the-Tee + SG: Approach
  • Strokes Gained: Tee-to-Green (SG: Tee-to-Green), which is SG: Ball-Striking + SG: Around-the-Green

Don’t forget to check out two key metrics in our models — Perfect% and SimLeverage. You can find an explainer on those metrics here.

The Cliffs Notes version is that you can use SimLeverage to quickly find leverage plays in tournaments, while Perfect% is great for finding the best price-considered plays for cash games.

And don’t forget to utilize our various PGA DFS tools like our Lineup OptimizerLineup Builder, PGA Correlation Dashboard, and our Trends tool.

DraftKings $10,000+ Range

Scottie Scheffler ($13,900)

Scheffler’s legendary season continued last week with a come-from-behind win at the BMW Championship. The world No. 1 trailed by four strokes heading into the final round and his victory at Caves Valley Golf Club marked his fifth of the season, all of which have come in his last 10 starts. Scheffler is simply on a totally different level from the rest of the PGA TOUR right now and with the largest prize of the season on the line this week, the superstar’s dominance should continue at East Lake with another victory and he is a must-play for cash games. Including last year’s win, Scheffler has finished T6 or better in four of his five starts at East Lake and he has shot 66 or better in 50% of rounds at the par 70.

Now available: our PGA DFS SimLabs Lineup Generator that creates advanced DFS lineups using the power of simulation.

DraftKings $9,000 Range

Russell Henley ($9,600)

Henley is a match made in heaven for East Lake, with this venue being a Donald Rossdesigned course that features Bermuda greens. Henley has finished T12 or better in all four of his starts at East Lake – including a T4 last season – and the 36-year-old is leading this field in Strokes Gained per round at the par 70. Henley ranks fourth in Strokes Gained per round when we compare this field’s results at Ross courses and he ranks fourth in strokes per round when we analyze this field’s last 50 rounds at tracks with Bermuda greens. Henley has produced nine top-10 finishes in 17 starts this season – including a win at the Arnold Palmer Invitational – and he sits at a career-best No. 4 in the world golf rankings. This weekend, Henley should conclude his outstanding season with a top-five finish.

DraftKings $8,000 Range

Sam Burns ($8,300)

Burns has finished T9th and T12th at the last two TOUR Championships and the LSU product is fresh off a T4 at the BMW Championship last week, marking his 11th top-25 finish of the season. At Caves Valley, Burns gained strokes in every major category, except around the greens. This season, the 29-year-old leads the PGA TOUR in SG: Putting his season and he ranks 14th in par 4 performance, setting Burns up perfectly for his return to East Lake. For three straight years, the winner at this Ross creation has finished the week top-five in both SG: Putting and par 4 efficiency.

DraftKings $7,000 Range

Cameron Young ($7,900)

After getting the monkey off his back and claiming his first PGA TOUR title at the Wyndham Championship earlier this month, Young has had an excellent start to the FedEx Cup Playoffs, finishing T5th at the FedEx St. Jude Championship and T11th at the BMW Championship the last two weeks. The 28-year-old has shot under par in nine of his past 12 rounds and that victory at the Wyndham Championship is very notable, as that event was played at another Ross design in Sedgefield CC. When we compare this field’s results at Ross venues, Young ranks third in Strokes Gained per round. The bomber finished only T19th in his lone start at East Lake in 2022, but Young is in much better form this time around and he should provide a higher finish in his second attempt at the par 70 this week.

Sepp Straka ($7,600)

Straka is back in action this week after sitting out the BMW Championship due to a personal matter and the Austrian is one of the best values on the board for the TOUR Championship. Straka has won twice and produced 13 top-25 finishes in 21 starts this season, and before finishing T27th at Eagle Lake last year, he had finished T7th and T14th in his first two starts at the venue. Straka ranks fourth in total Strokes Gained this season and this salary is a significant $1,100 drop from his last start.

Harry Hall ($7,000)

Hall is a steal at this low salary. The Englishman has carded 14 top-25 finishes in 24 starts this season, including a T6 at the BMW Championship last week, in which he gained strokes across the board at Caves Valley. Hall leads the PGA TOUR in birdie average this season and he ranks second in SG: Putting and par four performance. While this week will be Hall’s first attempt at East Lake, he has thrived at other Ross designs this summer, and he should have a strong debut at the par 70 this week. Notably, Hall finished T13th at Detroit Golf Club for the Rocket Classic in June and T15th at Sedgefield CC for the Wyndham Championship earlier this month, both of which were designed by Ross.

DraftKings $6,000 and Below Range

Justin Rose ($6,800)

Rose should get back on the track at East Lake after posting a subpar T30 finish at the BMW Championship last week. Prior to this, the veteran was on a sensational run, finishing T6th, T16th and first in his previous three starts, in that order, with that win coming at the playoff opening FedEx St. Jude Championship two weeks ago. Rose has gained strokes on approach at four straight events and he has been terrific at East Lake during his career. In his last seven appearances at the Ross track, Rose has finished inside the top six four times, including two runner-up finishes. Among this field, the 45-year-old ranks seventh in Strokes Gained per round at East Lake.

Shane Lowry ($6,400)

Lowry shined in his East Lake debut a year ago, finishing T9th, including a third round 5-under 65. While he has no wins this season, Lowry has been one of the top performers on the PGA TOUR, with 11 top-25 finishes in 19 starts, including two runner-up finishes. Lowry closed last week’s BMW Championship with a 3-under 67 in the final round and he ranks fourth in SG: Approach this season, putting him in an excellent position to thrive at East Lake for the second year in a row. Over the last four years, three of the victors at this par 70 have finished the week top five in SG: Approach.
