Wyndham Championship: Top PGA DFS Picks, Values, and Sleepers for Large-Field GPPs on DraftKings

The PGA TOUR wraps up the regular season this week at Sedgefield Country Club with the Wyndham Championship in Greensboro, North Carolina. While the biggest names in the sport have already locked up their spot in the FedExCup playoffs and are taking this week off, the golfers around the cutoff point at No. 70 will all be battling for critical points to qualify for next week’s FedEx St. Jude Championship. Players will look to move up the leaderboard for the tournament and also climb the standings for the playoffs, creating a fascinating tournament within the tournament this week.

For fantasy golf, the FedExCup standings don’t impact this week’s scoring at all. The course at Sedgefield is a shorter but still demanding par 70 that requires accuracy over distance off the tee and strong putting on the Bermuda grass greens. For more info on the field, the course, the weather, and some key stats to track, check out this First Look from RotoGrinders.

Especially in large-field GPP tournaments, you’ll want to make sure to target players who have lower ownership projections than their potential performance.  Finding high-leverage plays is critical for GPP success, so the picks here go against the grain, looking for under-owned options.

All Strokes Gained metrics referenced are from the Rabbit Hole.

Usually, I rely heavily on the Strokes Gained Model in FantasyLabs, which is very predictive of results. I also tend to lean toward players who excel in Strokes Gained: Approach, which is more sustainable week-to-week than a hot putter.

Since these are GPP picks, we can accept more risk in exchange for getting a higher ceiling. High-risk, high-reward options with low ownership create the “boom-or-bust” style lineups that often lead to large-field success. To find guidance for all contest types, check out our full Daily Fantasy Golf coverage each week.

No matter what type of format you prefer, be sure to use the FantasyLabs PGA Models to help you make the best choices. These models use stats and simulations to highlight different players’ strengths and weaknesses. A few critical new stats for GPP play are Perfect% and SimLeverage, which are further explained here.

As you dig into the numbers, you can enjoy the many tools FantasyLabs offers, including the Lineup Optimizer, which effortlessly creates up to 300 lineups. Alternatively, you can use the Lineup Builder if you prefer a more hands-on approach.

Matt Fitzpatrick $10,600

Fitzpatrick is a great source of pay-up leverage this week with the highest SimLeverage in the field and the second-highest Perfect%, behind only Ben Griffin ($10,100), who is another strong play. Fitzpatrick has the second-highest ceiling and median projections in the field as well, and he comes in with outstanding form.

In his last three events, Fitzpatrick finished T8 at the Rocket Classic, T4 at the Genesis Scottish Open, and T4 again at The Open Championship. Using a wider lens, he has made the cut in 10 straight individual tournaments, including making the cuts at all three majors, highlighted by a T8 at the PGA Championship.

Fitzpatrick leads the field in Total Strokes Gained over the last 16 rounds while ranking second in Strokes Gained: Tee-to-Green. His putter can be a little inconsistent at times, but he has gained more strokes putting on Bermuda grass than on any other surface over the last year and the last five years.

He played this event just once in his career, finishing T36 in 2018. This year, though, he returns in strong enough form to overlook his lack of recent experience and still target him as a strong anchor for your lineup. He definitely has plenty of win equity, and since his ownership projection is a little lower, some solid leverage is available if you can pay up for his slate-high salary.

Jake Knapp $9,100

Knapp is another player on a heater coming to Sedgefield who has the kind of approach game and accuracy off the tee that could lead to great results this week. He has the seventh-highest Perfect% in the field and the sixth-highest SimLeverage.

Knapp started the year a little slow but has picked up steam with five straight top-30 finishes. He was in contention at last week’s 3M Open until hitting his approach into the water on the final hole of the tournament and finishing T3. It was still his fourth top-10 finish of the season and his second in his last three events in the United States.

Over the last 20 rounds, Knapp leads the field in Strokes Gained: Off-the-Tee and ranks second behind only Fitzpatrick in Total Strokes Gained. He also ranks third in. Strokes Gained: Putting, and he’ll be a strong contender this week if his flat stick keeps rolling so well.

Knapp will be making his debut at this event, so there is definitely an added layer of risk involved in playing the 31-year-old this week. However, for GPP lineups, his ceiling is worth taking that added risk, especially given his excellent track record in low-scoring events.
