NFL DFS Picks: Top OwnersBox Plays for 49ers-Chiefs Super Bowl 58

brock purdy, qb of the 49ers

OwnersBox is one of the unique DFS sites that still has traditional daily salary cap contests in addition to their Lightning Lineups contests.

In Lightning Lineups, the OwnersBox app will provide three sets of lineups for a given sport and slate, each lineup with three players. From there, users pick which lineup they think will score the most points. If you don’t like the options, you can spin for new lineups.

Spin. Pick. Win. OwnersBox innovative Lighting Lineups format is the most electric way to play daily fantasy sports.

Also, our OwnersBox promo code delivers new users a $500 sign-up offer. Their 100% deposit match up to $500 is by far the best among DFS sites.

Anyway, this article will focus on the more traditional salary cap DFS lineups that we’re all accustomed to. The best part about OwnersBox is their DFS product is a Superflex format with no defense.

I’ll be highlighting my favorite play at each position using our NFL projections inside our NFL Player Models.

NFL DFS Stud/Mid-Range Picks

Rashee Rice ($5,200) vs. San Francisco 49ers Lions

The highest Pts/Sal in the projections for this Sunday belongs to the Chiefs’ breakout rookie receiver Rashee Rice. Rice is very affordable and comes with a high ceiling after his mid-season emergence as the top wide receiver for Patrick Mahomes. He’s much cheaper than Travis Kelce and offers more big-play ability, although Kelce will be a strong option too due to his reliable volume.

Rice may come in a little under the radar after totaling under 50 yards against the Bills and Ravens, but he was still involved in those games. He caught all four of his targets for 47 yards in the win in Buffalo and then hauled in 8-of-9 targets against the Ravens for 46 yards. Volume wasn’t the issue; he just couldn’t shake loose for a big play.

Despite being limited in practice by ankle issues this week, Rice is on track to be very involved. San Francisco ranked in the middle of the pack against wide receivers this year, allowing three receiver touchdowns in their first two playoff games. Opposing receivers have averaged a total of 13.2 catches for 146.2 yards against them in their 20 games this season.

Rice started the playoffs with eight catches for 130 yards and an early touchdown against Miami, and he has a similar ceiling on Sunday. He also brings plenty of reliability with the highest floor projection of any player on the board. Rice should get plenty of chances to make big plays while also bringing relatively low risk. Getting him at this salary represents elite value and keeps both the ceiling and floor of your lineup very high.

Brock Purdy ($6,800) at Kansas City Chiefs

Purdy has the third-highest ceiling and median projections on Super Bowl Sunday, and he also brings the third-highest Pts/Sal. Like his salary, his projections trail just a little bit behind Patrick Mahomes. He comes at a discount from Mahomes, though, and has a better overall matchup against the Chiefs.

In each of his two playoff wins, Purdy has thrown for over 250 yards and a touchdown. In his 18 games this season, he totaled 33 touchdowns and averaged 266.6 passing yards per contest. Even though Mahomes has an extra game, Purdy has more touchdown passes along with a better yards-per-game average and fewer interceptions. Mahomes is definitely a more proven Super Bowl option, but Purdy’s numbers are right on par with Patrick’s.

The big debate leading into this game has been whether Purdy is a “system quarterback” or not. For OwnersBox Showdown purposes, that debate doesn’t really matter. He’ll get to play in Kyle Shanahan’s system with all his playmakers available in this matchup, so he should be able to find success in this system with the potential for plenty of big plays.

The 49ers defense gave up the fifth-fewest fantasy points per game to opposing quarterbacks this season, while the Chiefs rank 15th. Opposing quarterbacks have five touchdowns against them in their three playoff games and have averaged over 200 passing yards a game on the season. Statistically, Purdy’s matchup is slightly better than Mahomes’, so I’ll take the savings and back Brock for a big game in his first Super Bowl appearance.

NFL DFS Punt Pick

Marquez Valdes-Scantling ($3,400) at Kansas City Chiefs

Both offenses have plenty of star power to rely on, but if you’re searching for savings after stuffing stars into your lineup, Marquez Valdes-Scantling has the highest Pts/Sal of the players under $5,000. He’s priced under $3,500, offering significant savings even from other cheap plays.

MVS drew plenty of attention early in the season for his issues with drops and his lack of reliability as a top option for Mahomes in the passing game. After Rice’s emergence, though, Valdes-Scantling seemed to settle back into a smaller role where he is more comfortable as a home-run threat without as much volume. He finished the regular season with just 21 catches for 315 yards and a touchdown in 16 games.

Like last year, though, Valdes-Scantling has shown the ability to step up when the lights are brightest. He hauled in two critical catches against the Bills in the Divisional Round on his way to 62 yards, his second-best total of the season. In his last game, he caught a critical 32-yard pass over the top that sealed the win for the Chiefs and allowed them to run out the clock and advance to the Super Bowl. Last season, he also came up huge in the AFC Championship, with six catches for 116 yards and a touchdown against the Bengals. He was shut out in the Chiefs’ win over the Eagles but will be looking for a better finish to this season.

While he doesn’t get a ton of volume, none of these punt plays are in that situation. For each of them, you’re looking for one big play or maybe two. Since Mahomes trusts MVS in the biggest spots and his salary allows more flexibility than other punt options, Valdez-Scantling projects as the top punt play on OwnersBox.
