NBA Trend of the Day: Punt Plays With High Minute/Usage Projections

We truly believe here at FantasyLabs that we have the most unique tools and data available to DFS users. However, we also realize that those tools and data are only as awesome and helpful as our ability to communicate effectively how to use everything. As such, we will continually listen to feedback of what you need and try our best to teach our subscribers how to use all of the cool things we have to offer.

With this in mind, our “Trend of the Day” series features articles each weekday that walk subscribers through an important trend for that day’s slate of games, created with our Trends tool.

It’s the time of the year for obscure players you may not be familiar with to start winning GPPs. As the season winds down, we’ll begin to see more and more players priced at absolute rock bottom begin to find themselves in useful situations. Just looking over tonight’s slate of games, there are 13 players priced under $4,000 that are projected to play at least 25 minutes tonight. So let’s see if we can’t find some value here.

Trend: Punt Plays With High Minute/Usage Projections

It’s great to throw out a player for close to minimum salary that is going to play a lot, but it’s tough to accumulate points standing in the corner. If we’re going to target these low-priced punt plays, it’d be nice to have some expectancy that they’ll have the ball in their hands a bit, so let’s target players that we’re projecting for a decent amount of usage as well.

Step 1: Player Filters > Salary > Set to “3000 to 4000”

Salary

Step 2: Projections > Proj Minutes > Set to “25 to 48”

Minutes

Step 3: Projections > Proj Usage > Set to “18 to 26.8”

Usage

Okay, filters set — check.

Results?

Not too bad actually, especially considering we’re dealing with guys that are priced so low.

Results

So the results are decent enough and the logic is sound — we’re targeting punt players that are going to play decent minutes and have some opportunity to create on offense. But do we actually have any hits on this? I know, silly question. Of course we do — it’s the end of the NBA season; there are plenty of options available to us!

Good luck sorting through the value tonight!
