Staying active on the waiver wire is an important way for season-long fantasy owners to improve their teams and get an edge on the competition. Shifts in opportunities for players due to injuries or performance cause value spikes that owners can take advantage of to fill in roster holes to build a championship lineup.
Each week, we will discuss waiver wire targets at each position to consider for both the week ahead and the rest of the fantasy season.
Week 8 Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Adds
* Current roster % in home leagues is noted in parentheses (from FantasyPros)
Aaron Rodgers, QB (Pittsburgh Steelers) (32%)
The 41-year-old quarterback has been middle-of-the-road in fantasy production through his first six games this season, but Aaron Rodgers‘ pass attempts have increased to 30 and 34 over the last two weeks and he will certainly be motivated in Week 8 for a matchup against his longtime team.
The Steelers opened up the passing game in a fun back-and-forth affair with the Bengals on Thursday night. Rodgers tossed four touchdowns for the second time this season and set a season-high in completions (23) and passing yards (249).
The Packers are 19th against opposing fantasy quarterbacks on the season and just allowed 279 passing yards and two scores to journeyman Jacoby Brissett and the Cardinals. Rodgers has a strong matchup against the Colts in Week 9 and could be a two-week streaming option for quarterback-needy fantasy teams.

Zonovan Knight, RB (Arizona Cardinals) (23%)
After James Conner and Trey Benson went down with an injury, it appeared Michael Carter had taken the reins as the Cardinals’ starting running back. Zonovan Knight may have flipped the tables on him over the last two weeks and now seems to be in line for double-digit touches and potential flex consideration.
Knight saw 45% of snaps in Arizona’s Week 7 loss to Green Bay while amassing 14 carries for 57 yards. He added three catches for seven yards through the air. His backfield mate Michael Carter saw 27% of snaps and earned fewer carries (7) and catches (2) in the game. Carter has yet to reach 4.0 yards/carry in any game this season.
It is entirely possible the backfield continues to be a timeshare and neither back is fantasy viable, but without many other exciting waiver options this week, Knight is worth a pickup and stash. If he continues to see 15+ opportunities a week, he could turn into a low-end flex option.

Kayshon Boutte, WR (New England Patriots) (21%)
At one point in his college career, Kayshon Boutte was projected as a high first-round draft pick, but he never quite lived up to those expectations at LSU. He may be starting to show some of that explosiveness with the Patriots as a deep threat. Boutte has put together two straight solid fantasy weeks on just seven total targets.
Boutte caught all five of his targets in Week 6 for 93 yards and two touchdowns. He hauled in both of his targets last week for 55 yards and another score. His upside certainly comes with immense risk, as he’s earned just one red-zone target on the year and has spent four weeks outside the top 45 of fantasy wide receivers this season.
The Patriots may have the easiest remaining schedule in the league and Drake Maye has taken a leap this season with multiple touchdown passes in five of seven games to start the season. Expect a handful of deep shots to Boutte each game. He is a boom-or-bust flex option for fantasy teams needing a spark.
Oronde Gadsden II, TE (Los Angeles Chargers) (6%)
The Syracuse rookie tight end broke out on Sunday in the Chargers’ loss to the Colts. Oronde Gadsden II set career marks in all receiving stats by catching seven of nine targets for 163 yards and his first career touchdown.
Gadsden II has shown his athletic ability to run deeper pass routes with 14.0 yards/reception on 22 catches in his rookie campaign. He has continued to earn more playing time, increasing his snap share each week from 26% in Week 3 to 79% in Week 7.
At 6’5″, Gadsden II is a credible red zone option with five such targets in the last two weeks. Despite Ladd McConkey and Keenan Allen playing consistent roles over the middle of the field, the rookie tight end appears to be on the rise in the offensive game plan and may quickly find himself in starting fantasy tight end territory.

Indianapolis Colts, D/ST (57%)
Indianapolis has had an incredible start to the season and will likely notch another win against the lowly Titans this week. In the team’s first matchup this season, the Colts sacked Cam Ward four times and returned an interception for a touchdown for a top-5 fantasy week.
The Colts defense has forced multiple turnovers in three games this season. The Titans have yet to score more than 21 points this season and have had multiple turnovers in each of the last two games. Indianapolis is an obvious waiver wire choice to stream in Week 8.
