2021-sanderson farms championship-pga-dfs-stats-preview-course-fits-gpp-picks-values-2021

After an exciting week at the Ryder Cup, we are back into the swing season. The TOUR heads to Jackson, Mississippi, to play the Sanderson Farms Championship at Country Club of Jackson.

Country Club of Jackson is a par 72 and 7,461 yards with very fast Bermudagrass greens.

This week, we’ll focus on building teams for GPP contests on DraftKings. I will be breaking down the key stats (past 24 rounds) and selecting golfers from different price tiers to provide flexibility for a DFS lineup. You can utilize our Lineup Builder to effortlessly create up to 150 lineups.

Don’t forget about the other tools that FantasyLabs has to offer, such as the Trends tool and PGA Correlation Dashboard.

This analysis may reference Strokes Gained, a set of proprietary metrics generated by the PGA TOUR using millions of data points to calculate how many shots on average it takes a player to get the ball in the hole from every distance and situation. Strokes Gained is now available in the FantasyLabs PGA Models.

Strokes Gained: Off-the-Tee

Great drivers of the golf ball have fared very well at Country Club of Jackson in the past. The past three wins of the Sanderson Farms Championship have gained an average of 5.0 Strokes Gained: Off the Tee.

  • High-end target: Sergio Garcia– $11,300 (4th SG:OTT)
  • Mid-range target: Keith Mitchell – $7,800 (2nd SG: OTT)
  • Value Target: Anirban Lahiri – $6,200 (5th SG: OTT)

Strokes Gained: Approach

The course will generate low scores and a winner in the -20 range, so it’s important that players give themselves plenty of birdie looks. Sergio Garcia gained 7.0 strokes on the field in his victory last year, which was third in the field.

  • High-end target: Keegan Bradley – $9,700 (1st Strokes Gained: Approach)
  • Mid-range target: Seamus Power – $8,800 (5th Strokes Gained: Approach)
  • Value Target: Adam Svensson – $7,100 (3rd Strokes Gained: Approach)

Strokes Gained: Par 5

Three of the four par 5s on the course should be reachable by the longer hitters, with the longest par 5 measuring 587 yards.

  • High-end target: Cameron Tringale – $9,400 (4th Strokes Gained: Par 5)
  • Mid-range target: Gary Woodland– $8,400 (15th Strokes Gained: Par 5)
  • Value Target: Lucas Herbert– $7,300 (1st Strokes Gained: Par 5)

Driving Distance

With two of the past three winners (Sergio Garcia and Cameron Champ) being two of the longest hitters on TOUR, it would be a mistake to not target some bombers in Jackson.

  • High-end target: Will Zalatoris – $10,800 (18th in Driving Distance)
  • Mid-range target: Matthew Wolff – $8,500 (5th in Driving Distance)
  • Value Target: Trey Mullinax – $6,500 (4th in Driving Distance)

Course History

One strategy that may pay off for DFS players is targeting golfers who have previously played the course well.

  • High-end target: Sungjae Im– $10,300 (9th Strokes Gained: Total at CC of Jackson)
  • Mid-range target: Carlos Ortiz – $8,600  (4th Strokes Gained: Total at CC of Jackson)
  • Value Target: Denny McCarthy– $6,600 (8th Strokes Gained: Total at CC of Jackson)
