If the prediction is not correct, the contract settles at $0, meaning you lose the $0.70 paid per contract.

Prices are locked in at the time of purchase, but they can move based on market demand. That means users can sometimes buy contracts early at a low price before sentiment changes. For example, if you trade a contract on the Jacksonville Jaguars to make the playoffs at $0.10 before the start of the season and they win a bunch of games to increase their playoff chances, that price might shift to $0.80, showing it’s much more likely to happen.
