NBA DFS Breakdown (Sunday, May 16): How To Play Regular Season’s Final Night Slate

The FantasyLabs NBA DFS Breakdown offers data-driven analysis using FantasyLabs Tools and metrics to highlight notable players.

Sunday’s NBA DFS regular season finale slate features 10 games and locks at 7:00 p.m. ET.

Today is the day to be locked into the Labs Insider tool with players being scratched as the early games go final. Some teams will have more to play for than others during the main slate. Also check out FantasyLabs NBA on Twitter.

Point Guard

Stud

The Dallas Mavericks are playing for the five seed (if they choose). Win and they are locked in. Luka Doncic has one of the better matchups according to Opponent Plus/Minus and tops the NBA Model projections by at least five fantasy points on FanDuel and DraftKings. He is the fifth-rated point guard on FanDuel.

Value

D.J. Augustin is the top-rated point guard and a top-three player on FanDuel as the Rockets limp to the finish line. The Atlanta Hawks need the Knicks to lose to a hobbled Celtics team, which is highly unlikely, so Augustin should see a lot of minutes potentially against Atlanta’s bench.

Fastbreak

Killian Hayes has a chance to end the season with an opportunity to log a fourth-straight game with 35-plus minutes. Hayes could also see time against Miami’s backups if the New York Knicks win earlier in the day. He is a top-10 point guard on FanDuel.

Dennis Schroder and the Lakers have a chance to avoid the play-in game scenario, but they must win for that to be an option. I expect him and the rest of Los Angeles’ starters to play their usual minutes.

Shooting Guard

Stud

The Brooklyn Nets clinch the two-seed in the East with a win over Cleveland. Will James Harden play all four quarters? Probably not, but I would bet he does everything he can to bury the Cavaliers. Sometimes, 80% of Harden is better than 100% of the players between $3,000-$4,000.

C.J. McCollum is also in a spot to rake against the Denver Nuggets, who are still shorthanded at guard and may have to put Austin Rivers on McCollum early and often. A Portland win means the Blazers would avoid the play-in tournament. McCollum is at least $2,400 cheaper than Harden on both platforms.

Value

Shake Milton, Tyrese Maxey and Furkan Korkmaz are all $4,000 or less on DraftKings and will see extended time with the 76ers locked into the top seed in the East. My preferred play is Korkmaz because he is a top shooting guard play on both platforms and also has small forward eligibility on DraftKings.

Fastbreak

Nickeil Alexander-Walker will play as long as he can stand for the New Orleans Pelicans. He has 20-plus FanDuel points in each contest since returning to the lineup May 9 and put up 52 on FanDuel on Friday in 40 minutes.

Armani Brooks has scored double figures in six straight Rockets games and has made at least three 3-pointers in each of those games. Rockets-Hawks has the highest projected game total on the main slate.

Josh Jackson has been a good player on a bad Pistons team this season. He is the top rated No. 2 on FanDuel and has the best Projected Plus/Minus at the position.

Small Forward

Stud

Patrick Williams got off 14 shots Saturday, tied for his most on the season. Bulls head coach Billy Donovan has been wanting him to be aggressive on offense all season, and that has been a constant topic of discussion around the Bulls. Better late than never. He is a top-three play on both sites against the Milwaukee Bucks, who should be resting their starters.

Value

Anthony Lamb has back-to-back 20 fantasy point nights and is one of the cheap players that has shown a scoring ceiling. Lamb has a 99% Bargain Rating on DraftKings. The Rockets should be trailing against the Hawks, and hopefully Lamb is a beneficiary of garbage time.

Fastbreak

It would be nice to see Anthony Edwards play his normal minutes for the Timberwolves as they play their way out of a top-three lottery slot. Edwards leads the position in Pro Trends on both platforms.

Saddiq Bey gets shooting volume and has one more chance to take double-digit field goals attempts. He has done so in seven of eight May games.

Bruce Brown stands to benefit from the Nets running the Cavaliers off the floor. He has played 20-plus minutes in five consecutive games and three straight 30 fantasy point games on the line. That is excellent upside at $4,100.

Power Forward

Stud

Kristaps Porzingis can help the Mavericks lock up the five seed and get more work in after another lengthy absence. He is the top overall player on FanDuel against Minnesota.

Value

Lauri Markkanen has been a bust in Chicago but will look to finish strong against Milwaukee. He has 16 3-point attempts in his past two games and 34 points in that span. At $3,600, I am here for rec-league-chucker Lauri.

Nic Claxton has immense value on FanDuel against the depleted Cavaliers frontcourt. I doubt Blake Griffin plays his full workload ahead of the playoffs and the Nets tend to play small lineups, so a frontcourt of Claxton and Jeff Green could see a lot of time.

Fastbreak

Thaddeus Young will play facilitator for the Bulls in their finale. He has been Draymond Green-lite when he gets extended run.

I have zero issue paying up for Kenyon Martin Jr. He has been one of Houston’s best players in a lost season and should maintain lower ownership with cheaper players popping as values leading up to lock.

I want to drive down #NarrativeStreet and hope Bobby Portis has a revenge game stat line against the Bulls. He has played them plenty since being traded a few years back, but why not send the Bulls out the door with a personal beatdown?

Center

Stud

If the Suns win their afternoon game, Rudy Gobert will go into my player pool. The Jazz would have to win to be the top seed in the West, a first for the franchise. If the Suns burn out against the Spurs, Jarrett Allen is the top center on FanDuel. He is a rest candidate. If Allen does play, though, the Nets would have little resistance against him.

Value

Claxton is the top overall play on DraftKings.

Naz Reid has played well over the final stretch of the Timberwolves season and could run out the clock at center depending on Karl-Anthony Towns’ role. Jarred Vanderbilt could also see a similar role as Reid.

Fastbreak

I thought Nikola Jokic would sit some of Friday’s win and it burned me. If the Nuggets do not want to face Portland in the playoffs, look for Denver to play their regulars. The issue there is the Lakers would slide into the sixth seed.

Mason Plumlee is off the injury report for Detroit and appears to get the backups from Miami. His only competition for center minutes is Jahlil Okafor.

I selfishly want Kelly Olynyk to play his full workload. He has met or exceeded his projection in six of seven May games and has flirted with a triple-double in all six. He has three double-doubles this month.
