CFB DFS Quarterback Picks

NEW: DFS Terminal – a new tool with modern features designed to help you succeed at DFS.

LaNorris Sellers (South Carolina Gamecocks): $8,300 DraftKings

For weeks, we’ve been shouting LaNorris Sellers’ name from the DFS mountaintops. Still, he’s not getting the fantasy recognition he deserves. The South Carolina Gamecocks’ quarterback has been absolutely sensational of late. He should have no problem maintaining his elite production against the defensively irresponsible Texas A&M Aggies.

Sellers does it all. We’ve seen him take over games with his raw passing ability, turning to his legs when needed. The junior has 32 or more passing attempts in three of his last four games, averaging 254.0 passing yards and 2.5 touchdowns per game on a 63.0% completion percentage. Across that same stretch, Sellers has netted 359 rushing yards (89.8 yards per game) on 62 carries for an additional five scores. Altogether, that translates to an average of 35.1 fantasy points per game over the four-game sample.

Statistically, Texas A&M ranks in the upper tier of most pass defense metrics; however, the Aggies are standing on untenable ground. Last time out, they gave up 311 passing yards to Alabama, an unfortunate indicator of what to expect in Columbia, SC. LSU and ASU both exposed those same flaws, with Texas A&M unable to contain top-end passing offenses.

Even if the passing game fails him, Sellers can be counted on to deliver meaningful fantasy production on the ground. He’s rushed for 96 or more yards in all but one of his last four outings, including multiple scores in two straight. In that regard, Sellers will be running into the weakness of the Aggies’ defense and into his fifth straight dominant fantasy performance.

Conner Weigman (Houston Cougars): $8,600 DraftKings

The Houston Cougars are fighting for their playoff lives. Already with two losses, albeit to ranked opponents, the Cougars can’t cede any more ground if they hope to reach the Big 12 Championship Game or the 12-team playoff field. Conner Weigman is tasked with elevating their play on offense, and we expect him to deliver another masterful fantasy performance.

Undoubtedly, Weigman has been one of the most consistent quarterbacks since the start of the season. He ranks 20th in passing yards (2,053) and eighth in passing touchdowns (20), and he has the seventh-best QBR in the FBS (83.4). Moreover, he’s ratcheted that production up with his latest efforts. While the Cougars faced a tough test against Utah, Weigman still managed to throw for 282 yards. In the two preceding weeks, the senior tallied 585 passing yards and nine touchdowns. That brings his three-game average up to 289.0 passing yards and 3.0 touchdowns per game.

Further, the Cougars won’t face the same stifling challenge they faced against the Utes, pointing toward increased production from Weigman. The Cincinnati Bearcats have one of the worst pass defenses in the country. They give up an average of 268.0 passing yards per game this season, a figure that rises to 298.6 against FBS competition.

Weigman is looking to atone for Houston’s most recent loss, and Cincinnati is the sacrificial lamb. The Cougars’ quarterback will have no problem running up the score at TDECU Stadium en route to one of the best fantasy performances on the main slate.

CFB DFS Running Back Picks

Caleb Hawkins (Oklahoma State Cowboys) $9,500 DraftKings

We hopped on the Caleb Hawkins train earlier this season. Still, the freight train has picked up breakneck speed in recent weeks, so much so that the Oklahoma State Cowboys’ running back enters the Week 10 main slate as the premier running back available. Some may be scared off by his salary, but we’re here to assure you that he is worth the investment.

Over the past few weeks, Hawkins has been the most productive running back in the FBS, demonstrating elite ability in the run and pass games. The sophomore is coming off a career-best 194-yard effort against Iowa State last time out, marking the second straight game in which he’s eclipsed the century mark. Additionally, he’s been a high-volume pass-catching option out of the backfield. Over the past three games, Hawkins has pulled down 18 of his 24 targets for 278 receiving yards. In total, that equals 660 scrimmage yards and four scores.

We wouldn’t be surprised if Hawkins sets the bar even higher in Week 10. Kansas State has looked completely lost against the run. So far this season, the Wildcats are getting torched for 166.1 rushing yards per game, an average that has risen in four of the last five weeks. Cincinnati, Houston, Colorado, and Kansas have all eclipsed that mark, with the first three all going north of 220 rushing yards.

The Cowboys’ revival has been spurred by Caleb Hawkins. While he’s getting the recognition he deserves with the recent salary bump, the FantasyLabs projections indicate he has the highest fantasy ceiling this weekend. We expect him to reach, if not exceed, that mark in Manhattan.

Bo Jackson (Ohio State Buckeyes) $7,500 DraftKings

It has been an up-and-down year for the Ohio State Buckeyes. Already with two losses and sitting on the edge of playoff contention, Ohio State needs to finish strong. Thankfully, they can count on Bo Jackson to help turn the tide down the stretch. The Ohio State running back has seen increased usage recently, an upward trend that carries him into a must-win game against the Oregon Ducks.

Jackson got off to a tepid start this season, negatively impacting his perceived fantasy value. The sharpest DFS punters will swoop in to buy low on him this week. Through the first five games of the season, Jackson totaled just 353 yards and two touchdowns on 66 carries. In the three games since, he’s up to 284 yards and two touchdowns on 62 carries. Jackson’s per-carry production has remained relatively consistent across the season, but his increased workload has sent his fantasy value through the roof.

Moreover, we’re anticipating sustained production against the Ducks. Oregon’s defense hasn’t matched its championship aspirations. They sit in the middle of the pack in overall production, ranking 53rd in total defense and 46th in scoring defense. Predictably, that correlates with a lackluster run defense. The 23rd-ranked Ducks give up an average of 152.6 rushing yards per game against FBS opponents, a figure that rises moderately to 159.3 over their last three games. Surely, Jackson will benefit in Week 10.

As -7.5 chalk, the Buckeyes should be expected to turn to their ground game more frequently against the Ducks. With Jackson taking on a more prominent role, we suspect this will be one of the last times you can roster him at a discounted rate.

CFB DFS Wide Receiver Picks

Junior Sherrill (Vanderbilt Commodores) $6,300

The Vanderbilt Commodores are desperately trying to recapture the magic of last season. Their early efforts have put them in an insurmountable deficit in the SEC, but there are still positives to take away. Vandy is getting increased production out of its passing game, translating to DFS success for a few key players. More specifically, Junior Sherrill has been the bright light in an otherwise dark time.

Vanderbilt’s offense runs almost exclusively through Junior Sherrill. Without a meaningful ground game, Sherrill has been counted on to keep the chains moving. His 706 receiving yards account for nearly half of Vandy’s passing offense (1,893 yards). Likewise, his 49 receptions are more than triple the total of the next closest receiver (Ja’Cory Thomas, 15), while his 69 targets represent a 27.3% target share.

Volume goes hand in hand with reliability. The senior has been one of the more sure-handed receivers of late. Over his last three contests, Sherrill has nabbed 21 of 26 targets for a tidy 80.8% catch rate. He should be expected to continue that onslaught against one of the worst pass defenses in the country.

To date, Mississippi State is giving up the 21st-most passing yards per game to FBS opponents and the 13th-worst completion percentage. The Commodores will take full advantage of that weakness, precipitating a standout fantasy effort from Sherrill.

Jackson Harris (LSU Tigers) $6,900

The First Saturday in November once again brings a clash of titans. The Alabama Crimson Tide and LSU Tigers are both trying to solidify their grip on a playoff spot, but only one will prevail after Saturday’s heated clash. The betting market has the Tigers out in front by a wide margin. Their path to victory is made easier by Jackson Harris.

Harris has endeared himself to Sam Leavitt in recent weeks. The junior has led the team in receiving yards in three of the last five games, earning a more substantive workload with each passing contest. Harris kicked off the stretch with a 163-yard game against Texas A&M and capped it with an even better 173 yards last time out. Throughout that part of the Tigers’ schedule, he accounted for 517 receiving yards, five touchdowns, and 31 receptions. Additionally, his 20.6% target share is the highest mark on the team across that sample.

This isn’t the same Bama defense from seasons past. The Crimson Tide rank 86th in pass defense this season, giving up 208.1 passing yards per game. That number jumps to 222.4 against FBS opponents and 245.5 over their last six games. Surely, a Tigers squad that puts up 329.3 passing yards per game at home will have no problem poking holes in Alabama’s weak secondary.

Harris is the key to the Tigers’ passing success, and he’s primed to build on his season-best performance from last time out. His high-volume approach and efficiency put him among the best receivers on the main slate, but his scoring potential ratchets him up to the top. Harris is a must-roster on Saturday.

Jeremiah Smith (Ohio State Buckeyes) $9,500

Our usual stacking preference is to pair a wide receiver with a quarterback. In Week 10, we can’t overlook the scoring potential of pairing Bo Jackson with Jeremiah Smith. Smith has asserted himself as a Heisman Trophy frontrunner. He will continue his assault on the college football season with another strong showing.

Smith is the engine that keeps the Buckeyes revving. His 62 receptions this season are the sixth-most in the FBS, while his 1,067 receiving yards and 13 touchdowns both rank second. Granted, he hasn’t had a 100-yard receiving game since Week 5. Still, he’s accounted for four touchdowns, 18 receptions, and 244 yards in the three games since. Even with diminished production, Smith has remained a constant threat, commanding 25 targets for a 27.8% target share over that three-game stretch.

Oregon’s pass defense has been equally to blame for their defensive woes this season. FBS opponents are up to 223.3 passing yards per game against the Ducks, including a concerning 244.0 on the road. Even with safety help, they won’t be able to contain Smith.

Last week, Northwestern’s Griffin Wilde went off for 146 yards and a score against the Ducks. And that was with Oregon playing at home. Now that the Ducks must contend with a raucous Ohio State crowd and a vastly superior Jeremiah Smith, we’re confident they’ll be exposed.

This is Smith’s time to shine. He’s the wideout you want to build around in Week 10.
