NBA Trend of the Day: FanDuel Players with a Positive Bargain Rating and a Ceiling of At Least 50

We truly believe here at FantasyLabs that we have the most unique tools and data available to DFS users. However, we also realize that those tools and data are only as awesome and helpful as our ability to effectively communicate how to use everything. As such, we will continually listen to feedback of what you need and try our best to teach our subscribers how to use all of the cool things we have to offer.

With this in mind, we’ve begun a “Trend of the Day” series. Every weekday we’ll walk our subscribers through an important trend for that day’s slate of games.

Before getting into Today’s Trend of the Day, I figure I will let you all know the origins of it. I was digging around the Trends Tool yesterday when I began looking into the Bargain Rating, which is a historical percentile rank that represents how much of a bargain a player is on one DFS site versus the other. If you have been playing DFS for any substantial period of time, then you know that sites can vary in how they price players.

I started looking at the difference between the two sites (FanDuel and DraftKings) and found that a positive Bargain Rating on FanDuel looks to be more predictive than on Draftkings. This is not the trend of the day, but what I did was open the Trends Tool and create a trend for DraftKings and then created the same Trend for Fanduel. The steps went like this.

  • Step 1: Time Filters > NBA Season > 2015-16
  • Step 2: Trends > Bargain Rating > set to “50 to 100”

Here are the results for DraftKings:

3-25-Trend-1

On DraftKings, we have a count of 11,463, a Plus/Minus of -0.12 and a consistency of 43.8%.

Here are the results for the same trend on FanDuel:

3-25-Trend-2

On FanDuel we have a count of 12,309, a Plus/Minus of 2.67, and a consistency of 59.2%. Clearly, within these data ranges, Bargain Rating is more significant on FanDuel than DraftKings, and so I’ve decided that today’s trend of the day should focus on FanDuel bargains with high ceilings, because chicks dig the upside.

Trend: (FanDuel) Players with a Positive Bargain Rating and a Ceiling of At Least 50.

Step 1: Trends > Bargain Rating > Set “50 to 100″

3-25-Trend-3

Step 2: Projections > Ceiling > Set “2015-16″

3-25-Trend-4

This will leave us with a completed trend that looks like this.

3-25-Trend-5

We are left with a count of 2,165, a Plus/Minus of 3.13, and a Consistency of 61.4%. Now, let`s take a look at our current matches.

3-25-Trend-6

BONUS: Select Edit (top right of screen) > Fantasy Site > Select DraftKings

3-25-Trend-7

Now, we are looking at the same trend for DraftKings. You can apply that step to any of our trends if you are curious to see how it performs on the other site. Crack open the Trends tool for yourself and dig around. Let us know what you find.

Good luck!
