Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Targets for Week 13

Staying active on the waiver wire is an important way for season-long fantasy owners to improve their teams and get an edge on the competition. Shifts in opportunities for players due to injuries or performance cause value spikes that owners can take advantage of to fill in roster holes to build a championship lineup.

Each week, we will discuss waiver wire targets at each position to consider for both the week ahead and the rest of the fantasy season.

Week 13 Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Adds

* Current roster % in home leagues is noted in parentheses (from FantasyPros)

Trevor Lawrence, QB (Jacksonville Jaguars) (40%)

Trevor Lawrence has yet to live up to the incredibly high expectations that came with being a generational number one draft pick in 2021. That said, he has guided the Jaguars to a 7-4 record and has produced consistent QB1 fantasy scoring since Week 5 with just one game outside the top 14 at the position.

Lawrence tossed three touchdowns against the Cardinals last week for his second three-score performance of the year. Surprisingly, he is still waiting on his first 300-yard passing game of the year. That could come this week against the Tennessee Titans, a defense allowing the 20th-most fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks on the year.

Fantasy teams needing a high floor performance to push them toward the playoffs should look to Lawrence this week. He is likely not a week-winning proposal on his own, but he should manage low-end QB1 numbers again in a solid matchup.

Devin Neal, RB (New Orleans Saints) (5%)

Injuries mean opportunity for the running back position, and Alvin Kamara is the latest starting running back to miss time. He suffered an MCL strain in the Saints’ loss to Atlanta after five touches in the game.

Rookie tailback Devin Neal is the next man up for the New Orleans backfield. He’s been seldom used in his freshman NFL season, with just 17 carries for 61 yards in the team’s first 11 games. Neal rushed for over 4,000 yards in four seasons with the Kansas Jayhawks with a 5.7 yards/carry average.

The Saints haven’t shown they can compete with the better teams in the NFL, but they could be frisky this week in a matchup against the Dolphins. Assuming Kamara misses a few weeks, expect New Orleans to find out what they have in Neal by giving him a steady workload. That’s really all you can ask for when looking for running backs off the waiver wire at this point in the season.

Christian Watson, WR (Green Bay Packers) (34%)

The Packers have played in a recent slog of low-scoring grind-it-out games against the Vikings, Giants, Panthers, and Eagles. They will likely need to open up the offense this week in Detroit to keep up with a potent Lions offense.

Christian Watson saw his most targets of the season on Sunday with five catches on seven opportunities for 49 receiving yards. He caught two touchdowns on four targets in Week 11 in Green Bay’s win over the Giants. Since returning from injury in Week 8, Watson has steadily increased his usage from an 11% target share in Week 8 to 33% in Week 12.

The Packers barely had to throw the ball against the Vikings. They ran the ball 42 times and threw is just 21. That script should change drastically this week, and Watson appears to be in a prime position to take advantage of a boost in pass volume. This may be the last week you will have a chance to grab him on waivers.

Dalton Schultz, TE (Houston Texans) (51%)

Fantasy owners will likely not jump with excitement to insert Dalton Schultz into their lineups, but he is one of the most consistent low-end TE1 options that could be hanging around the waiver wire. Schultz has four top-10 tight end finishes in his last six games with a mix of CJ Stroud and Davis Mills behind center.

The Colts are 28th against opposing tight ends this season, which should help Schultz bounce back from his worst result of the season. He caught just one of four targets for eight yards against the Bills in Houston’s upset victory.

Prior to that, dude, Schultz had three straight games with at least eight targets. Few other waiver wire options have seen that kind of volume. The ceiling is certainly capped on Schultz with just one touchdown on the season, but he is a steady option for teams needing consistent scoring at the position.

Atlanta Falcons, D/ST (28%)

The Falcons defense has become a menace for opposing quarterbacks in the offensive backfield. They have at least five sacks in each of their last four games with six total takeaways in that span. They travel to New York to face the lowly Jets this week and are an obvious pickup and play option.

In Tyrod Taylor‘s first start in relief of Justin Fields, he was sacked three times and threw a pick to the Ravens. That feels like a floor outcome this week for an Atlanta defense teeing off in the pass rush. The Falcons have six different players with at least three sacks on the season, including both rookies Jalon Walker and James Pearce Jr.
