NBA Trend of the Day: Players With a High Bargain Rating and High Projected Ceiling

We truly believe here at FantasyLabs that we have the most unique tools and data available to DFS users. However, we also realize that those tools and data are only as awesome and helpful as our ability to effectively communicate how to use everything. As such, we will continually listen to feedback of what you need and try our best to teach our subscribers how to use all of the cool things we have to offer.

With this in mind, we’ve begun a “Trend of the Day” series. Every weekday we’ll walk our subscribers through an important trend for that day’s slate of games.

Tonight’s slate of games features some players with really nice Bargain Ratings, something that I generally look to exploit in cash games. But looking over the situations surrounding many of these players, I think I may be more apt to utilize them in tournaments.

To ensure that these bargain-priced players have the appropriate ceiling we’re looking for, I’m going to be incorporating our Projected Ceiling into the Trend.

Trend: Players with a high Bargain Rating and high Projected Ceiling

 Step 1: Projections > Projected Minutes > “25 to 46.3”

Proj Min

Step 2: Trends > Bargain Rating > Set to “90 to 100”

Bargain Rating

Step 3: Projections > Projected Ceiling > Set to “95 to 100”

Proj Ceiling

Now let’s take a look at our results:

And the tonight’s matches:

Not too bad, considering the +4.42 Plus/Minus. The Consistency is low, but because we’re looking at potential tournament targets, that’s to be expected. We’re looking for high-upside plays and that often comes with a bit of additional volatility.

Now let’s take this Trend a step further.

If we’re considering these players for tournament purposes, let’s try to find a way to potentially identify players that may not be quite as appealing to the masses (implying a deflated ownership percentage). One of the ways that I like to do that is to incorporate the Month Salary Change filter. Players that have had a drop in price over the previous month often implies that their play may have dipped off recently, thus potentially pushing the public off of them a bit.

Step 4: Fantasy Month Filters > Month Salary Change > Set to “-2400 to -100”

Salary Drop

And now let’s check out our updated results and matches:

If you’ve paid any attention to the pricing on DraftKings this season, the results aren’t all that surprising. We’ve got two centers that both have a really high Bargain Rating, something that has become incredibly common this season on the site (and something that has been extremely exploitable).

If we take a look at some of the recent matches for this Trend, we’ll see the center position represented extremely well.
