NFL DFS Showdown Picks for Eagles vs. Commanders on Sunday Night Football (November 1)

NFL Week 8 features a Sunday Night Football showdown between two NFC East rivals. The Eagles and Commanders are both off to mediocre starts this season, but both will have a chance to pick up a much-needed win in Washington. The Commanders are listed as 6.5-point home favorites, while the total sits at 40.5 points.

Philadelphia has won the division in two straight years, but it will need a miraculous turnaround to make it a three-peat. The team is currently without starting QB Jalen Hurts, and he might miss the rest of the regular season. Perhaps more importantly, the rest of the team doesn’t seem nearly as talented as in years past. The defense has slipped tremendously, and the offense has been unable to pick up the slack.

The Commanders enter this contest at just 1-4-1, but they’re better than their record suggests. Three of their four losses have been by one score, including a two-point loss in Philadelphia in Week 1. That game came back when the Eagles were at full strength, so it’s no surprise that the Commanders are favored in the rematch.

There’s only one player priced in the “stud” category on this slate: Jayden Daniels. Daniels burst onto the scene as a rookie, taking home Offensive Rookie of the Year while leading the Commanders to the NFC Championship. It seemed like he was poised to become the next great quarterback.

Unfortunately, his body hasn’t cooperated. Daniels was limited to just seven games last year due to injury, and he’s already missed two starts this season. His production was also clearly impacted when on the field last season, with his numbers dropping basically across the board.

The good news is that Daniels has at least been good when available this season. He’s averaging just under 200 passing yards per game with five touchdowns and zero interceptions, good for an average of 7.4 adjusted yards per attempt. Some of his advanced metrics aren’t quite as good as the ones he posted as a rookie, but he’s been pretty damn close.

Of course, Daniels’ biggest weapon will always be his legs. In that department, Daniels is having arguably his best season. He’s averaged an elite 8.5 yards per attempt so far this season, resulting in a career-best 53.3 rushing yards per game. That number would be even higher if not for exiting before halftime vs. the Cowboys. In his first game back from injury, Daniels ripped off more than 100 yards and two touchdowns on the ground vs. the Giants, resulting in 35.26 DraftKings points.

Daniels’ legs could serve him well in this matchup. The Eagles’ defense has struggled this season, particularly on the ground. They’re 31st in EPA per rush defensively, so there should be opportunities for Daniels to do some damage.

The Eagles have also struggled to defend the pass, so unsurprisingly, they’ve allowed the ninth-most fantasy points per game to opposing QBs. It gives Daniels an Opponent Plus/Minus of +3.5, which is the third-best mark on the slate.

In a contest without a lot of sure things, Daniels stands out as the clear-cut top option. He has the top median and ceiling projections by a pretty comfortable margin, and he also ranks first in projected Plus/Minus. Daniels is expected to be the highest-owned Captain on this slate at roughly 20%, but that’s still well below his optimal Captain rate of 38.1% in Sim Labs.
