Picks from Friday’s NBA play-in tournament games
This Friday will feature two single-elimination games from the NBA play-in tournament. The Eastern Conference will have a game between the Bulls and the Heat, while the Western Conference will feature a contest between the Kings and the Pelicans.
There are definitely some quality picks you can choose on PrizePicks from tonight’s play-in tournament matchups. I have outlined some of the ones that make sense to me below.
- Bam Adebayo to score more than 21.5 points
- Brandon Ingram to score more than 20.5 points
- Domantas Sabonis to get less than 14.0 rebounds
The Heat and the Pelicans are in similar positions, as their No. 1 options, Jimmy Butler and Zion Williamson are out with injuries. Thus, it makes sense that the No. 2 options on each team, Bam Adebayo and Brandon Ingram will have to take on more of an offensive load.
Adebayo finished the regular season averaging 19.3 points per game, and he will be facing a weak frontcourt against the Bulls, with Nikola Vucevic anchoring the defense. Vucevic doesn’t really provide much resistance at the rim, and Adebayo should be able to thrive here and get more than 21.5 points, especially without Butler.
The Pelicans will likely run their offense through Ingram, as they need an initiator and shot-creator with Williamson out. I expect an uptick in field goals attempted, and through the increased volume, I also see the scoring increasing. Ingram averaged 20.8 points during the regular season and will play heavy minutes in this win-or-go-home contest.
Domantas Sabonis is an elite rebounder, but to me, the 14.0 mark seems high given the context of the game. The Pelicans have Jonas Valanciunas, who generally plays Sabonis well, and can offset some of the Kings’ center’s rebounding. Even though Sabonis is averaging 13.7 rebounds, he shouldn’t get more than 14.0 rebounds here.
