Alabama vs. Tennessee Preview

Alabama enters 5-1 after a 20-17 loss to Georgia, but the offense has been much better than that one result suggests. The Crimson Tide average 44.2 points per game, while Keelon Russell has thrown for 1,599 yards with 12 touchdowns and a 67.9% completion rate.

The biggest concern is at receiver. Ryan Coleman-Williams, Alabama’s leader with 415 receiving yards and four touchdowns, is out after suffering a knee injury against Georgia. That puts more responsibility on Lotzeir Brooks and Rico Scott.

Tennessee is also 5-1, but the quarterback situation is less settled. George MacIntyre is expected to start after throwing for 247 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions against Arkansas, while Faizon Brandon has returned to practice but remains questionable with a shoulder injury.

The Vols have been strongest on the ground. DeSean Bishop has 678 rushing yards, and Tennessee ranks among the country’s most efficient rushing offenses. Tennessee’s defense has also kept the team competitive, allowing only 15.5 points per game.

That creates the key matchup. Alabama can commit more resources to slowing Bishop if MacIntyre cannot consistently threaten the defense through the air, while Russell gives the Crimson Tide the more reliable passing-game advantage.

Alabama vs. Tennessee Prediction

• Alabama vs. Tennessee prediction: Alabama wins by 8+ (Alabama -7.5) at about 51¢ on Novig

Tennessee’s defense and Neyland Stadium give the Vols a path to keeping this competitive, but the quarterback matchup favors Alabama.

MacIntyre would be making just his second career start against an Alabama defense that can focus on taking away Bishop and the Tennessee rushing attack. The Vols have also failed to score more than 24 points in each of their last three games.

Losing Coleman-Williams lowers Alabama’s offensive ceiling, but Russell still gives the Crimson Tide the more reliable passing game. If Alabama builds an early lead, Tennessee may have to win through the air rather than leaning on its biggest strength.

I project a final score of something close to Alabama 31, Tennessee 20. With Alabama -7.5 priced around a coin flip, I prefer the Crimson Tide to win by at least eight.
