Week 2 gives Survivor players several strong favorites, but they come with very different tradeoffs.

San Francisco has the highest projected win probability on the board. Tampa Bay offers strong win odds with almost no Future Value to sacrifice. The Chargers give up very little safety compared with Tampa Bay while being projected at a fraction of the popularity.

Baltimore and the Rams have attractive current-week Expected Value, but using either one means giving up significantly more future utility.

So the question is not simply which team is most likely to win.

It is which combination of win probability, projected popularity, current EV, and Future Value makes the most sense for your pool.

NFL Survivor Week 2 Picks at a Glance

Here are six of the most relevant teams on the current board:

  • San Francisco: 85% win odds, 32% projected popularity, 1.05 EV, 1.7 Future Value. The safest option on the board, and currently the last time the 49ers are projected above 80% win odds for the rest of the season.
  • Tampa Bay: 78% win odds, 30% projected popularity, 0.95 EV, 0.1 Future Value. Very little future opportunity cost, but one of the most popular picks on the board.
  • LA Chargers: 75% win odds, 6% projected popularity, 1.01 EV, 0.3 Future Value. Only three points lower in win probability than Tampa Bay, with dramatically lower popularity and very little Future Value to sacrifice.
  • Philadelphia: 73% win odds, 11% projected popularity, 0.97 EV, 0.5 Future Value. Another lower-popularity option, though the Chargers currently have the stronger overall profile.
  • Baltimore: 79% win odds, 9% projected popularity, 1.06 EV, 2.8 Future Value. Excellent current-week value, but one of the most expensive teams to use from a future-planning standpoint.
  • LA Rams: 74% win odds, 2% projected popularity, 1.02 EV, 2.4 Future Value. Extremely low popularity and positive EV, but significant Future Value makes them costly to spend in Week 2.

The Week 2 projections create a few very different choices.

  • San Francisco provides the most immediate safety.
  • Tampa Bay has almost no future opportunity cost, but is projected to be one of the most popular picks.
  • The Chargers offer nearly Tampa Bay’s win probability with dramatically lower projected popularity.
  • Baltimore and the Rams look appealing on current EV, but both have much more value later in the season.

Those differences are why simply sorting the board by win probability does not tell you which team to use.

San Francisco Has the Highest Win Probability

If your priority is reaching Week 3, San Francisco is the obvious place to start.

The 49ers currently have:

  • 85% projected win odds
  • 32% projected popularity
  • 1.05 Week 2 EV
  • 1.7 Future Value

No other leading option is currently within six percentage points of San Francisco’s projected win probability.

That additional safety matters, especially in smaller Survivor pools where there may be less reason to take additional risk.

There is also an important schedule consideration.

This is currently the last time San Francisco is projected above 80% win odds for the rest of the season. The back half of the 49ers’ schedule also looks considerably more difficult.

That makes the 1.7 Future Value less concerning in a pool you do not expect to last deep into the season.

If your contest is relatively small and you expect it could be decided by around Thanksgiving, saving San Francisco for later may not provide nearly as much benefit as the current Future Value number initially suggests.

Tampa Bay Has Low Future Value, but High Popularity

Tampa Bay has a very different profile.

The Buccaneers currently have:

  • 78% projected win odds
  • 30% projected popularity
  • 0.95 Week 2 EV
  • 0.1 Future Value

The 0.1 Future Value makes Tampa Bay extremely easy to use from a season-planning perspective.

There is very little future utility to preserve.

But that advantage is offset somewhat by the projected popularity.

Nearly 30% of Survivor entries are currently expected to use Tampa Bay, despite the Buccaneers having seven percentage points lower win odds than San Francisco.

That is why Tampa Bay should not be evaluated in isolation.

There is another team sitting only three percentage points lower in projected win probability with a dramatically different popularity profile.

The Chargers Create the Most Interesting Comparison

The Chargers currently have:

  • 75% projected win odds
  • 6% projected popularity
  • 1.01 Week 2 EV
  • 0.3 Future Value

Compared with Tampa Bay, you are sacrificing only three percentage points of projected win probability.

But projected popularity drops from 30% to 6%.

The Future Value difference is also relatively small. Tampa Bay sits at 0.1, while the Chargers are at 0.3.

So unlike some lower-popularity alternatives, using the Chargers does not require sacrificing one of the most valuable teams on your future schedule.

That combination makes this one of the most important Week 2 comparisons.

TeamWin OddsPopularityWeek 2 EVFuture Value
Tampa Bay78%30%0.950.1
LA Chargers75%6%1.010.3
Philadelphia73%11%0.970.5

The Chargers currently give you higher EV than Tampa Bay, substantially lower projected popularity, and only slightly more Future Value to sacrifice.

That does not make them the automatic pick in every pool.

But if you are considering Tampa Bay, the Chargers should be part of the comparison before you lock anything in.

Chargers vs. Philadelphia

Philadelphia provides another lower-popularity option, but the current projections favor the Chargers in several important areas.

The Eagles currently have 73% win odds, 11% projected popularity, 0.97 EV, and 0.5 Future Value.

The Chargers have 75% win odds, 6% projected popularity, 1.01 EV, and 0.3 Future Value.

So on the current board, the Chargers have:

  • Higher win probability
  • Lower projected popularity
  • Higher current EV
  • Lower Future Value

Philadelphia can still make sense depending on your specific pool and which teams are available to your entry.

But if both teams are available, the Chargers currently have the stronger overall profile in most standard Survivor pools.

Baltimore Has Excellent Week 2 Numbers, but a Much Higher Future Cost

Baltimore has one of the strongest current-week projection profiles.

The Ravens currently have:

  • 79% projected win odds
  • 9% projected popularity
  • 1.06 Week 2 EV
  • 2.8 Future Value

The 1.06 EV is the highest of the leading Week 2 options.

If you only looked at this week’s projections, Baltimore would be extremely appealing.

The issue is what you lose later.

Baltimore’s 2.8 Future Value is substantially higher than Tampa Bay, the Chargers, or Philadelphia. The Ravens project to have multiple premium opportunities later in the season.

Using them now removes all of those options from your future path.

That does not mean Baltimore is a bad Week 2 pick.

It means the current-week advantage needs to be valuable enough in your specific pool to justify the future cost.

PoolGenius’ Season Planner lets you see those tradeoffs across the remainder of the schedule, rather than evaluating Week 2 in isolation.

You can compare the value of using Baltimore or San Francisco now with the future weeks where those teams may be much harder to replace.

The Rams Show Why Current EV Is Only Part of the Decision

The Rams provide an even more extreme example.

They currently have:

  • 74% projected win odds
  • 2% projected popularity
  • 1.02 Week 2 EV
  • 2.4 Future Value

The 2% popularity immediately stands out.

So does the positive 1.02 EV.

But the Rams also have several stronger projected opportunities later in the season. As the PoolGenius Season Planner lays out, they project to be among the strongest favorites on the board in multiple future weeks.

That makes them expensive to use now.

Compare that with the Chargers.

The Chargers currently have slightly higher win odds, only 6% projected popularity, and just 0.3 Future Value.

Both provide differentiation from the field.

One requires giving up considerably more future utility.

That is why Expected Value is an important Survivor metric, but not one that should be used by itself.

What Should You Do With the Week 2 Projections?

Start with the size and expected duration of your pool.

If you are in a smaller pool and only expect the contest to last until around Thanksgiving, San Francisco’s 85% win odds are difficult to ignore. This is currently the last time the 49ers are projected above 80% win odds for the rest of the season, and the back half of their schedule looks considerably more difficult.

If you are considering Tampa Bay, compare the Buccaneers directly with the Chargers. You are giving up only three percentage points of projected win probability while moving from 30% projected popularity to just 6%.

If you are also considering Philadelphia, the Chargers currently have higher win odds, lower popularity, higher EV, and lower Future Value.

And before using Baltimore or the Rams, make sure the current-week advantage is worth spending significantly more Future Value. In many pools, it will not be.

Those are the key Week 2 tradeoffs.

The exact answer still depends on the pool you are trying to win, the teams you have available, and how long you expect the contest to last.
