MLB DFS Breakdown (Saturday, Aug. 7): Tampa Bay Rays Stack Presents Value for Managers

Saturday’s main slate on FanDuel features 10 games starting at 7:05 pm ET. We will be using the Bales Model to break down some of the best players to complete your lineups.

Pitchers

The four pitchers projected to score the most fantasy points today are:

Yu Darvish (R)

Brandon Woodruff (R)

Charlie Morton (R)

Julio Urias (L)

The highest-rated pitcher on Bales Model for FanDuel today is Yu Darvish from the San Diego Padres. Darvish has been deemed the losing pitcher in four of his last five starts. Not only has there been a lack of run support, but he also has given up quite a few home runs.

In those last five starts, Darvish has allowed nine long balls, which have led to 21 earned runs. Hoping to get back on track and in the win column, he’ll be on the mound against the Diamondbacks, who have the worst record in baseball (35-76). Another reason to back the Padres right-handed pitcher is that Arizona is projected for the lowest implied runs total on the slate (three runs).

The highest-priced pitcher on FanDuel’s main slate tonight is Brandon Woodruff from the Milwaukee Brewers. Woodruff has been electric through the first four months of the 2021 season. In 131 1/3 innings pitched, he has struck out 152 opposing batters, 2.26 ERA, 0.88 WHIP, and 7-6 record.

Woodruff faces the San Francisco Giants tonight in a battle of two division leaders. The Brewers won the series opener yesterday in a 2-1 extra-inning pitchers’ duel. Saturday’s matchup is shaping up to be another low-scoring affair.

The second highest-rated pitcher on Bales Model today is the Braves’ Charlie Morton. Although he has allowed two or more earned runs in each of his last four starts, Morton struck out 27 batters in his last 23 innings pitched.

Tonight, Morton will be on the hill against the Washington Nationals, who are currently on a five-game losing streak. The Braves will need a strong performance from Morton as they are in a tight National League East division race where there are three teams all within one game of each other.

The pitcher tied for the most wins in MLB (13) is Julio Urias from the Los Angeles Dodgers. Urias is a 24-year-old, hard-throwing left-hander from Mexico. In his sixth MLB season, he has more than doubled his career win total (25).

In his last outing against the Diamondbacks, Urias threw five scoreless innings, allowing only four hits while striking out seven opposing batters. Tonight, he will be pitching against the Angels, who are projected for the second lowest implied runs total on the slate (3.2 runs).

Value

Josiah Gray from the Washington Nationals is a pitcher who is highly rated on Bales Model today, as he is projected for the most points/salary. Although he has allowed at least one home run in each of his three 2021 starts, Gray has a strong 10.385 K/9. Due to his extremely low price on FanDuel, Gray is considered a 93% bargain by Pro Trends.

The biggest bargain on the slate tonight is Luis Garcia from the Houston Astros. Garcia has allowed five earned runs in each of his last two starts but is due to rebound as he takes on the Minnesota Twins, who are projected for a low implied runs total of 3.7.

Hitters

Notable Stack

Today’s top projected points stack comes to you from the Tampa Bay Rays:

  • Brandon Lowe (L)
  • Ji-Man Choi (L)
  • Nelson Cruz (R)
  • Austin Meadows (L)

The Rays are projected for the highest implied runs total on the slate. We highlighted them as the top stack yesterday and they went on to score 10 runs as a team and got five RBIs from Nelson Cruz. Expecting a very similar result in tonight’s game, so no reason to fade the American League East-best Rays team. On FanDuel, this stack will cost you $13.6k in salary and are projected for a combined 55.4 fantasy points.

Other Hitters

The highest rated batter on Bales Model today is Raimel Tapia from the Colorado Rockies. Tapia is currently on a 10-game hitting streak, during which he collected five multi-hit games. Hoping to continue this hot streak, the Rockies will be taking on the Marlins at home.

Another highly rated batter on Bales Model is Amed Rosario from the Cleveland Indians. Rosario has accumulated 16 hits in his last 13 games played and will be hoping to continue his strong hitting as he takes on the Detroit Tigers tonight. Not only has Rosario been a consistent hitter this season, he has also stolen 12 bases.

Value

Lastly, here is a handful of batters to consider while completing your lineups today that are projected for a high fantasy points/salary:

  • Phillip Evans
  • Adam Frazier
