MLB DFS Breakdown (Sunday, July 25): Yu Darvish, Aaron Nola Highlight Best Lineup Options

Sunday’s main Major League Baseball slate features 11 games, starting at 1:05 pm ET.

Pitchers

The four pitchers projected to score the most fantasy points are:

Yu Darvish (R)

Aaron Nola (R)

Sonny Gray (R)

Zach Greinke (R)

The highest-rated pitcher on Bales Model for DraftKings is Yu Darvish from the San Diego Padres. Although he has struggled recently, Darvish has been great in his 2021 campaign. In 110.2 innings pitched, Darvish has struck out 128 opposing batters, has an ERA of 3.09, even 1.00 WHIP and 7-4 record.

My only concern is that in his last three starts he has allowed a total of four home runs. If he can keep the ball in the yard, he should be set for a big fantasy output. Darvish is the highest-priced pitcher on both DraftKings and FanDuel, and is deserving of this price tag. Another reason to back Darvish is he will be facing the Miami Marlins. The Marlins have the lowest projected implied-runs total on this slate (2.8 runs), and have lost seven of their last 10 games played.

Aaron Nola from the Philadelphia Phillies has an interesting high price tag for his 2021 season statistics. In 106.2 innings pitched, Nola has an ERA of 4.647, 6-6 record and 131 strikeouts. In his last three outings, Nola has allowed a total of 15 earned runs, including five home runs. Hoping to get back to his early season form in which he did well, Nola will be on the mound against the Atlanta Braves, who rank fifth overall with 136 home runs.

Another pitcher who has struggled recently and is looking to bounce back is Sonny Gray from the Cincinnati Reds. In his last start against the Milwaukee Brewers, Gray allowed five runs on six hits while only pitching 4.2 innings. Gray will be pitching against the St Louis Cardinals, who are hoping to avoid a three-game series sweep. Gray’s price has jumped up, even though his disappointing performance last outing. Bales Model sees this as an advantage as is projected for low ownership.

Zach Greinke is a top-four rated pitcher on Bales Model for both DraftKings and FanDuel. For allowing quite a few base runners, Greinke has done well with damage control. In 120.2 innings pitched, he has struck out 89 opposing batters, has a 3.58 ERA and 9-3 record. If you’re looking for a flaw within Greinke’s game, he has allowed at least one home run in nine of his last 10 starts. Greinke will be on the hill against the Texas Rangers, who are on an 11-game losing streak. Another reason to back Greinke is the Rangers rank bottom 10 with only 109 home runs.

Value

If you are looking for strong points/salary pitchers on FanDuel, you have come to the right spot.

Trevor Williams (R)

Rich Hill (L)

Both of the gentlemen listed above rate extremely high on Bales Model on FanDuel. To highlight one, Trevor Williams is the highest rated pitcher on the FD slate per Bales Model. At times, Williams has looked like the stud pitcher the Chicago Cubs have been waiting for this season. However, consistency has been a major problem for Williams. He will be pitching against he Arizona Diamondbacks, who have a 12-39 record on the road.

Hitters

Notable Stack

The top projected points stack comes to you from the Cincinnati Reds (-162 odds):

  • Jonathan India (R)
  • Jesse Winker (L)
  • Tyler Stephenson (R)
  • Joey Votto (L)

The Reds have the highest projected implied-runs total on the slate (5.7 runs), and are hoping to benefit from playing at home. Cincinnati is currently 6.5 games back from the division-leading Milwaukee Brewers. In the first two games of the series, the Reds have scored a total of 11 runs. On FanDuel, this stack will cost you $12.5k in salary and is projected for a combined 49.3 fantasy points.

Other Hitters

The highest-rated batter on Bales Model for DraftKings is Robbie Grossman from the Detroit Tigers. Although he was held hitless in his last two games, Grossman has been on fire in the month of July. Hoping to continue this strong form, Grossman and the Tigers will be up to bat against Daniel Lynch from the Kansas City Royals, who has allowed 15 runs against in only eight innings pitched.

The highest-rated batter on Bales Model for FanDuel is Jean Segura from the Philadelphia Phillies. Segura is currently on a six-game hitting streak, which has included only two extra base hits. Segura will be looking to increase that total, as he takes on the Atlanta Braves’ pitching staff.

Value

Finally, here are a handful of batters to consider while completing your lineups that are projected for a high fantasy points/salary:

  • Josh VanMeter
  • Victor Reyes
  • Jake Cave
  • Jarren Duran
  • Jonah Heim
