Fade the Chalk: PGA DFS Ownership Pivots for the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open

Fade the chalk!

When building your rosters in guaranteed prize pool tournaments (GPPs) for PGA DFS, projected ownership should factor into your lineup decisions in certain situations. That doesn’t mean you should never roster highly-owned golfers, but completely ignoring ownership can prove costly. Having some contrarian plays in your lineup can improve your chances of winning a large GPP in PGA DFS contests.

Using the PGA DFS Contest Ownership Dashboard, we can clearly identify the golfers projected to be highly-owned in the upcoming Shriners Hospitals for Children Open. Let’s take a look at three of those players and evaluate which golfers could be great GPP pivot options with lower projected ownership.

Cameron Davis ($8,200)

Projected Ownership: 17.5%

I am the biggest Cam Davis guy out there. I bet him to win last week and played him in over 50% of my lineups. With that being said, there is no reason for him to be the fourth-most highly owned golfer this week. I worry about his tendency to have the occasional “fore right!!!” on a course where I am prioritizing driving accuracy. His consistent weekend struggles are also concerning.

Pivot Options:

  • Brian Harman ($8,000) Projected Ownership: 6%.
  • Charley Hoffman ($7,800) Projected Ownership: 7%.

Denny McCarthy ($7,700)

Projected Ownership: 15%

I see the appeal in McCarthy this week. He is the best putter on TOUR in a tournament that could turn into a putting contest. To put it simply, I’m not buying his newly discovered ball-striking prowess. He has had a good stretch, but I am of the belief that his recent performance is more of an outlier rather than the norm.

Pivot Options:

  • Matt Kuchar ($7,600) Projected Ownership: 3%.
  • Sebastian Munoz ($7,900) Projected Ownership: 6%.

Kristoffer Ventura ($7,100)

Projected Ownership: 14.5%

Ventura is another guy I bet last week, and I thought he had a real chance to win going into the final round. However, I don’t believe in the strategy of rostering a golfer who is priced at $7,100 and is projected to be top-10 in ownership. There are golfers priced around him that are far more established and have just as much of a chance to pay off in your DFS lineups.

Pivot Options:

  • Adam Schenk ($6,900) Projected Ownership: 6.1%.
  • Kevin Streelman ($7,000) Projected Ownership: 5.3%.
